Watched object moving and change color

I was out walking my dog. I was looking up at the sky because a million stars where out. I noticed what I thought was a star moving in a zig zag path. It stopped and then changed color from a bright white to blue and green. It then all of a sudden turned a BRIGHT ORANGE. I mean BRIGHT. It then turned back to white and remained motionless. I shined a 10 million candle power light towards it to see if anything would happen. It didn't. I went in the house and called my wife. She came out and looked and said its just a star and went in the house. I went in the house to get her and asked to just come back out and watch for a second. We went out and she looked up and said. Wow, it's gone. That was maybe 30 seconds later.
