Red Spherical Object Above Dunedin, NZ.

At Approximately 6:55-7:00 PM on June 2nd, 2014, my friend and I were standing on the balcony of our second story flat to smoke a cigarette, near the Botanical Gardens, near the University of Otago. After a few minutes spent outside, we saw a red Spherical object heading east, southeast over North Dunedin. The object appeared moving upwards behind a hill approximately 5-8 KM from our point of view. The object was not on a typical commercial flight pattern from Dunedin to Christchurch, which is typically visible to our west. Furthermore, the light emitted from the object did not convey typical, predictable red, blue, or white flashes of that of an airplane. Instead, the object emitted a dark orange/red color with the intensity of light illuminating off the object varying randomly. At some points, the light coming from the object was fierce and intense like fire, but at other times, however, the object was nearly invisible. The sighting lasted for about one minute, before disappearing above the clouds.
Two others, including myself witnessed the sighting. I was unable to get to my phone for a picture/photo before the object disappeared. Before you get wise, it was a cigarette and not the "urb".
