green/red rectaganal/box shaped object

large light fell in to neighboring garden.lots of flashes and green and red lights shooting skywards.Watched the area for about hour and then a light shot across the sky. It zigzagged over the houses and then fell in to same area.It reappeared and hovered at one stage a few feet from our bedroom window. it moved a short distance away and just hovered.my girls were terrified and I panicked at one stage when i thought it was coming in the window.it made a slight humming noise but it just sat motionless for a few minutes before shooting away.I stood in the garden for over an hour but didn't see it again.
