Red Lights Burning Out Over Naples Florida

I was watching basketball in a restaurant after dinner when my mother called me outside telling me that I needed to see this. I came out and looked up at the sky to see red lights going across the sky. They appeared to be ships, there were six at first and they were loosely spread out fairly low in the sky. Other people noticed these as well. As the ship-like objects crossed the sky, they kind of flickered before going out. More would appear behind them before they as well would flicker out, until it completely stopped. It lasted for about 5 minutes. This was my first experience seeing UFO's so it was very cool. My thought for what it could be would be extraterrestrials in the gulf and the red lights are so the government won't shoot, and that they flickered off after they made their presence clear or were given clearance.
