Boomerang shaped object following fireball

My wife & I witnessed what appeared to be a low altitude fireball to the north of our home, which was bright and reddish-yellow and lasted several seconds. About 3 seconds later, a boomerang shaped object, about 200 ft across and at about 1500-2000 ft altitude (a complete guess) flew southward and perpendicular to this fireball. It was absolutely silent, and was moving slowish for a craft of that size. There were no navigation lights, but my wife is convinced it had some kind of illumination on its ventral surface. I know there was some kind of pattern on the underside, but I'm not convinced that it gave off any light of its own. The moon was bright and half full. I think the fireball & the strange craft had to be related, but no one else in the neighbourhood seems to have noticed.
