military plane like you've never seen

i was driving back from a pizza restaurant close to scott airforce base. I seen a plane that was the size of a helicopter. it had no wings and had two large turbines on either side. it made no noise. it hovered above a dumpster in an area of a wooded parking lot. it was below the tree line. it was broad daylight and the two men sitting inside the cockpit looked very nervous at me. I just wanted you to know this for purposes of watching for something different than a ufo as we commonly think of them.i am ex-military and I haven't seen anything like it before. why I didn't turn around and go back I don't know. it seemed like it belonged there to me for some reason. I know there was no sound because I had my window down. this occurred around 2000. I wasn't scared to report it but I didn't know who to contact at the time. now I have more to lose so I wouldn't come out with this information for any group. but now you know.it was shaped like a plane.i don't know about lights. I didn't see any. it hovered like it was sitting on something
