color changing star from normal to red over eureka

what first appeared to be a normal still star would change to a faint red and move within a small section relative to its original location. It moves from side to side, circular, and figure 8 patterns. I cannot definitively tell the distance it was above myself. at first i thought it was a star but after the color change and movements it appears to be close to or within our atmosphere. i have no way of determining what it was. i see weird phenomena like this quite often but never get a reasonable explanation for what these things might be. i hope this info is useful to whomever may read this.
