round glowing object over wv followed by jet

I watched the round glowing object moving at a high rate of speed move across the sky north to south and disappear over the horizon when a minute later what looked like the same object came back from the south moving north at just about the same path only this time the object was being followed by a jet with the biggest wing span I've ever seen . The jet could not keep up with the object .
