2 sets of 3 luminescent orbs cross Manhattan

On my roof on 9th avenue midtown Manhattan at approx 1 am, I witnessed 2 sets of 3 luminescent orbs 9/28 moving in tandem across Manhattan. They started lower in the sky, coming up from the west, towards the Hudson. At first I thought they were balloons, but then I realized that they were luminescent, circular in shape, and quite large. Each set of three was moving in and out of triangular formation, as though they were connected through some sort of magnetic force. The two three-orb formations seemed to travel in tandem but separated more as they got further into the sky. They started out quite large, as they seemed close, and got smaller as they traveled from west to east. They ascended as they traveled east, remaining at the same intensity but getting smaller as they moved higher into the atmosphere. The direction they headed was from the midtown west side to upper east. Weirdest thing I've ever seen.
