Object Spotted Travelling Very Fast In Night Sky

Spotted fast moving 'light' at night. This light had a flaming trail and was moving at about 10,000 mph across sky, me on Kauai's west-side (Kapaa) looking east at sky. I'd say it was at about 20,000 ft. Then there was an explosion, which was not audible, and whatever was making that trail, kept on going, trail and all, until out of sight My initial thought was 'a comet', but when it appeared to explode,that thought went to 'an airliner' as it was headed in direction of Lihue Airport. The airliner was just an initial thought. No jet aircraft can move that fast.
