Red flashing light object joined by other object

I noticed a object that appeared to be a helicopter at first but then noticed red flashing pattern was odd. I was in a car on freeway so was difficult to see at first but when object came back in view it seemed to be surrounded by one or two object. Then as I proceeded driving further away I asked my friend to get off fwy to look. He wouldnt turn to look but when he looked in rear view mirror he seen it too. It seemed to be biggervas it linked to other objects. And it looked like it began flying over city of san dimas or glendora. Then we lost site as the freeway turned on a hill. I hope someone got it on camera.
